Why You Can’t Afford to Miss This Year’s Practice Plan Workshop Tour!

After seeing this year’s speaker, Joy Marsden, in action for ourselves, here’s an insight into why the Workshop Tour is shaping up to be an unmissable series of events.

When brainstorming themes for the Workshop Tour, there were lots of ideas thrown on the table, including the topic, ‘Survive and Thrive’ – a workshop based on personal and team motivation presented by international keynote speaker, Joy Marsden. With rave reviews echoing around the healthcare arena, we decided to go and see what all the excitement was about.

We arrived in Nottingham and managed to blend in with the 300 other people attending the conference. As soon as Joy began presenting, we knew we were going to be in for a good day. Her sense of humour shines through whilst she delivers her strategies, all mixed in with professional and personal anecdotes of when her strategies have been used with successful results.

We came out more exhilarated and excited about life than ever before! But why should you go and see her, you may be thinking? We all have pressure from one area of our lives and sometimes we need to remember how to put it in perspective and deal with everything in the most positive way. Here are a few of the points we took away from Joy’s presentation.

Throughout the day, we learnt to see things from different perspectives. All of us are looking at things from a different point of view and so by understanding others’ motivations, we can build up better relationships. For dental teams, this technique can be used to see things through the eyes of a patient. How are they feeling when they enter the practice? How do they feel when their treatment plan is being explained? By understanding their viewpoint, you can tailor their experience to make them a more loyal patient.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we all sometimes over think things and procrastinate – Joy laid out an action plan to manage this and to help face issues head on. It’s surprising how things can seem worse than they really are. It’s time to stop being nervous about telling patients the cost of treatments, time to stop putting off that stocktake and time to stop feeling anxious about confronting a continuously late staff member. Using Joy’s easy steps, you can face an issue head on, without worrying for longer than is necessary – carpe diem!

One of the best lessons we learnt was the need to understand the ‘whatever will be, will be’ attitude and how it impacts. It is fine to understand that some things are out of our control, but we all have the ability to choose our reactions and shape how a situation unfolds. This is a very liberating realisation and one that can have a huge impact on your life, both professionally and personally. This positive change in attitude is what Joy’s day is all about and will have a profound impact on your practice team.

We can’t wait for the Workshop Tour to kick off in September and for more people within the dental industry to hear Joy. The first date is in Manchester on 1st September with another 12 dates booked across the country. To book tickets and to see a full list of dates and venues visit www.practiceplan.co.uk/events or call us on 01691 684135. Make sure your team has the opportunity to come along to this truly inspirational day.

It really is going to be a fantastic tour!
