Be Clear About What You Expect of Team Members

Here’s this week’s top tip, straight from dental business consultant, Sheila Scott: “Be clear about what you expect of team members.”

“It may sound simple, but how many of you aren’t getting what you want because you don’t ask for specifics?”

The most effective managers are 100% specific about what and how they expect their teams to complete tasks, well before they spot problems with how the tasks are done! You know that there’s nothing worse than putting in your best effort, only to discover you were putting in the wrong sort of effort. So, don’t let this happen to your team members.

If making patients feel welcome to the practice is more important than just clicking them into the computer system, you need to tell them this, so they know their smile is more important than the speed of their fingernails. That way, when they fail to smile and you ask them why, they won’t be able to claim that they’re too busy, and that they can’t fulfil this essential part of their job.

Clear expressions of what you expect make it so much easier for team members to come up to the mark!”
